I just recieved a Med Flat Rate box of rocks today, from doughboy265, bought some of that nice picasso marble.   Anyway he did something that EVERYONE who ships rocks in FRB's should do, and I don't know why no one else has thought of it sooner.   dunno

He used TWO boxes!  That's right he Double boxed the rocks nesting one MFRB inside the other.  I am sure everyone who has had rocks shipped to them has gotten the squished, seams split, gravel coming out the seams boxes that I have recieved.  It's like the postal workers enjoy trying to destroy them.

Well this box was perfect and I just think its a wonderful idea and wanted to share it hatsoff

Mia,
I really wish that had been done a few times when I had ordered stuff from folks.

I have actually received calls from the post office about if I was expecting a package leaking sand, rock pieces, glass shards etc because the postal workers were afraid it was a bomb or some biological warfare item.  I had to calm them on the phone informing them that I make jewelry and I get rocks in the mail regularly so it's ok...

I had UPS one time not even bring me a package but send it back to the person who had shipped it to me because it was leaking tiny glass pieces, so instead of READING the label which said "Glass pieces for crafting enclosed" they simply felt the item was busted and sent it back.  It didn't make a friend of mine to happy....

Good idea Mia.
I'll briefly mention 3 parcels from the US as frequent flyers to AUS and if they were happy travelers.

1, small flat rate box with a gift of various facet rough. Items in their own small bags but taped to the lid to prevent movement. Sounds good huh? Wrong.
Not a happy traveler.
The box arrived as a FLAT flat rate box and nearly every stone was cracked, most of the sunstone was fish tank gravel ready.
Suggestion, still wrap items in bubble wrap within a box.

2, Medium flat rate box with a delicious assortment of slabs and rough. Each slab was in it's own bubblewrap sleeve and parcels of rough also in their own bubblewrap pouch.
happy travelers?
Yes, even though the parcel was opened by customs, rifled through, repacked, only one slab was broken. I firmly believe it was only broken due to the handling in customs but it was still good, definitely usable. So thumbs up for this technique.

3, A group of cabochons. Bubble wrap envelope, inside was each cab in their own little presentation box nestled between layers of the white soft material.
Happy travelers?
Definitely. The envelope still showed signs of damage but everything was well cocooned.

Just want to make mention that some postal sorting houses use rollers in their system which will squish envelopes so a layer of bubblewrap, whether it's the envelope itself or items wrapped within normal envelopes, it's a good first line of defense.

Tony shrink wraps the box. they arrive in good shape. even rocks wrapped in paper is better than bare rocks. I taped my boxes every inch and ship them home with ok results.

Good grief, the sizes on some of the rocks he sells! No wonder he doesn't ship to Aus.

I like mine, but I wish I had sprung for the primo. There was some I was thinking abut, and somebody else got it while I was snoozing. Of course, I really did not need it. ... so

will be keen to see how you slabs look

WELL Deb, I think your slabs look quite as good if not better than mine...  This stuff is GREAT, btw,  I just love the little forest scenes in it.  Just as good as picture jasper.
