G'day all.

I'm based western (outback) Queensland in Australia.  The area I live is a rich mineral province and I've been a keen fossicker (rockhound) for about 10 years.  My local gemmy rocks include amethyst, garnet, dendritic jaspers, chalcedony, chrysocolla, malachite, petrified wood, peridot and others.  I've also collected a range of other materials during holidays around the country.

About a year ago I realised I had to do something with my growing mound of rocks in the garden and buckets of rocks in the shed.  As a result, and through the urging of others, I bought a saw and cabbing machine.  Ever since I turned it on, I've been hooked.  There are no lapidary clubs close by so I have been learning through books, trial and error and the internet.

A fellow Aussie introduced me to this forum and I'm excited about learning more and sharing lapidary experiences with others.

Just so you know, I got my forum name from the Fullarton garnet field which are close to where I live.

I've attached an image of an oval cab I produced from some local material.  I'm not even sure what it is (I call it Diamantina jasper after a river here) but I think the colour reflects outback Australia quite well.

Cheers, Fullerton

G'day Fullerton

Looks like a sudden influx of Aussie's lately! What's happening?
Always loved my trips up through western Qld on the way to Camoweal and beyond. Magic place.

Thanks for the welcome everyone.  And I'm not sure about competitions yet Mick, I was hoping to hold onto my status as a cabbing newbie for a little while longer.
