Fantastic work Kurt, you are maturing fast as a carver extraordinaire. Well done on cutting the hollow orb, shows the great skill you have developed.

I like the balance you achieved with the two orbs. I am pleased you took the weight out of the central orb it really lightens the piece.

What is next?

Kurt, your carvings are truly amazing.  And to think in your first message you said you, "have clumsy hands".  I don't think so!!!!Your work should have it's very own show(that includes YOU, of course).

Kurt, an excellent design and superbly executed. I also like how the tigers eye is subdued somewhat, it's a nice shimmer without detracting from the design. I was recently working on a carved cylinder shape so I can well imagine how incredibly difficult it is to carve a sphere by hand. Really well done.

Thank you everyone.

Sorry for the late reply, but I wanted to leave it for two days before having the number change. I already said what the two means to us in China, now let me add a few more things that come with it: 4 x 2 is 8, and 8 represents fortune (material as well as spiritual) and no, I did not play the lottery or the horses. lol Now adding another 2 (waiting for two days) makes it 10 and adding the numbers together means one. The literal translation of the spoken word one is "best". LOL One thing is sure, we got a superstition for virtually everything. hairy1

This piece represented a new challenge (mentally), as it was knowingly made for an established artist, and having that on mind keeps me wondering if it will ever be good enough. I know that once I open her package, I will find something that I will adore for a long time to come. And yes Don, I will show you when the time comes. Package went out yesterday, so I think Hellen will get it in about 12 days. As some of you know its a mermaid, that all I know.

Well done on cutting the hollow orb, shows the great skill you have developed.
What is next?

David

Actually, you and quite a few others here could do orbs/hollowed out orbs like that better than I do, as you guys/galls do a lot more precision work in contrast to my freehand.

Whats next: Will be trying something to the tune of "Hard Rock" if everything goes well:

Paula: Nice to have back and find you well.

Pete: The hollowing out was a challenge because I used regular burrs as I could not find core-drills thin enough for the job in time. Your project was precise beyond what I can achieve. Having slightly irregular orbs is not that bad even though its far from perfect. While I look for perfection, having fun trying is still more important to me.

Thanks again for all the encouraging words, Kurt

Helene will be very pleased to wear this  and it is so much fun to wear something that was made just for you to wear. It gives it so much more meaning and sentiment:)

So I better rename the project "Hard Rock Frank" then. saved2 teaseme2

Here is the current update: After reading the above, I had to laugh so hard, I broke Franks tongue. Now While he lays in intensive care, I gotta find a new one.

Will take a bit longer than expected, but lets see if we can get this mug-shot ready on time for the contest.

This is not a problem good fellow - I have been known to be quite tasteless at times!  saved7

Man that is remarkable! I can't get over how you turn those outlines into features of such depth!  This is definitely, already, one of my favorite Kurt pieces!
