This year, we went on one of the Pow Wow field trips. Normally, we rock hound either alone, or or in a small group. The Marstens do not allow digging in the pit...it is unstable, so they bring out loads                           and dump them on the tailing pile for the rockhounds (aka big two legged flightless rock vultures) to collect. The first thing to learn was not get in the way of the rushing vultures. One would have thought the rock was free the way they acted, but is was $2.00 per pound. We picked up a thirty five pound piece and some smaller material.

Nobody ever goes home empty handed from the Marsten's Ranch....they keep bringing out loads until everybody has all the rock they want. It is sort of funny watching somebody put big rock on the scale..........at $2.00/pound the total adds up quick.
