For those of you who are not familiar with computer software creation and production, the "Alpha" phase is what comes before "Beta".  You may have heard the term "Beta Testing" before.
Essentially "Beta Testing" is the first live run of a software program where customers/clients actually use it.  It is where all the really nasty bugs and errors you made show up at 2am on Saturday morning when you are gone for the weekend thinking it is actually running ok (trust me, I know this).

Anyway..

My website catalog is ready for a critique/test run.  The items I'm populating the pages with are actual items that are for sale for the prices they are listed at (if you think the price is too high, it may be that I want to keep it ;)  but feel free to make an offer )

Everything is functional except for the Paypal gateway.  1) it is turned off.  2) in the event that it's not turned off, it's pointed at the Paypal Sandbox, not the real thing.

What I'm looking for is critiques mostly, however the items are for sale as listed, and I'll be adding more products as the days go on.  And if you run into any bugs or issues please let me know!

Thanks!

Well, I liked your website, but for whatever reason, it was super slow to load.

Well, if the slowness is on my side, there are 3 things I can think of:

1: The background image is kinda big :(
2: Might be the cart system.  OSCommerce has a stylesheet that has made some of my coding friends flip out when they saw it.
3: Could just be my web-host. :(

Jon, you have a misspell on the paragraph that starts out with Sterling Silver, should say however, but says howeve.  Great prices.

JOn, it is very nice. Love the background you used.
It came up immediately for me. And I clicked on all the things I wanted to see the additional information. I really like the enlargement option. When I am interested I want to see it BIG:)
I wish you great satisfaction both monetary and personal in this adventure. I know you have much talent and beautiful creations so success should be coming right down the road:)

Looks really nice Jon..

I like the background colors a lot..

The thumbnail images load just a bit slow.. I can't recall what had to do for my Zencart to remedy that. There might be something during the process of adding your products and images that might help that. Wish I could recall what it was on mine...

Although it is only noticable when first opening the site up.. Once opened and I start navigating through the site, everything opens up lightening fast.. !

Maybe because OS is not set up the same, but with my cart I have a lot of additional info within the <Head> Header.

When I view your page source I only see this...

<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
<title>Night Stone Jewelry</title>
<base href="http://www.nightstonejewelry.com/catalog/">
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="stylesheet.css">
</head>

As compared to what mine looks like.. These additional meta codes contribute greatly to how your site gets indexed via the various search engines.

<head>
<title>TaoGem, Gemstone cabochons</title>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
<meta name="keywords" content="wholesale, gemstone, cabochon, cabochons, design, supplies, bezel, silver, solder, settings, morrisonite, carrasite, fossil, agate, malachite, chrysocolla, chrysophase, jasper, lapidary, dendritic" />
<meta name="description" content="wholesale gemstone cabochon bezel type setting supplies for silver solder jewelry design" />

Price wise.... From the few items you have listed they seem ok with the exception of the intarsia.. Pretty high  hide

I don't have the expertise with Opal so can't really judge.

Just my two cents !  bricks

Are the weights of the cabs in carats or grams?

George, the tag information in the header is likely my own doing.  Something I need to fill out basically.

As for the intarsia, yes, the price is high.  I'm not that interested in selling it, but if someone simply *has* to have it, then I'm not that attached to it. :)

Bob: carat weight.  I have been trying to get the weight to display a "c" after the weights, but haven't had much luck with it.  Might take that part out completely and just put the weight in the main description.
