Hi everybody.  I have a new facebook page which i would say is a sub page of my personal page.  My wife made me do it and i have uploaded 30 so so cabs so far.  Boy this is a lot of work and i can't imagine how it could ever be profitable without selling them for at least $100 a piece.  The personal time is a killer to take the pics, upload them to the PC, resize them, and then upload them to Facebook, this forum, your website, etc.  By the way, most aren't for sale.  If they say "available" then they are.  I also may still have slabs from some of them that aren't for sale, but the slabs are.  And last but not least, i may also be able to reproduce a reasonable amount of them because i still have the slabs or rough.

Now here's the catch.  My wife being an artist, quilter, etc., has tons of internet and artzy type facebook friends and people who have seen her stuff in magazines, books, shows, etc.  So she invited about 300 of them to check out my new facebook page (Raging River Rocks).  Knowing how this facebook networking thing goes, when they come to my page, some will also see who else is linked there like George, Shain, Mary Ann, and a few others, and may go to their pages and maybe to their web pages and maybe even buy something.  So i am inviting all you to check out my page and link to it and maybe you can pick up some more lookers for your stuff.  So if interested, go to:

This is working pretty well.  I now have 19 members for my lapidary page on Facebook and half of them are just in the last hour since my wife sent out her invite.  I guess i should network with her more.  I guess i will really have to work my butt off now to get more stuff up like slabs and stuff.  I will have to put up pics of my slab and chunk collection and then the wild and cool stuff and then my rock specimen collection.  Man, i am getting tired.  Maybe i should just go play Halo and relax.

Wouldn't it be cool of someone wrote a program that would automatically re-size, label and upload your images to all of your favorite image hosting sites at once like facebook, flickr, and estsy? Or  create all of the HTML llinks necessary to share all of those images from your image hosting site at once so you can just copy and paste into blogs/email/forum posts? It gets really tiresome to edit, upload and link my pictures manually. Even photoshop's batch processing feature isn't that much of a time saver any more.

I can probably do some of the things like generating html links via software.  I haven't done this stuff for quite awhile but once in understand something, i can write the software.  I really need to find some software that will resize each of my pics to the size i want.  A script could be written to upload all pictures found in a directory on your PC, to each of the destination display sites like ebay, etsy, etc.  That wouldn't be too hard either, if you know what you are doing.  This is more stuff on my list of thousands of things I need to do yesterday.

Mark, your facebook looks great. Your work is amazing!

I sure agree with you about how much time this marketing stuff takes everyday. It can get to be overwhelming at times. I have been really pushing our marketing and each day I learn about something MORE I can be doing. I think my biggest struggle is the social networking stuff!!

My social networking skills are my weak point.
