Just an update.

There have been a few things that have had my project on hold for a few weeks now.

Primarily is some medical issues that I'd rather not go into
Secondary is the issue of the varnish on my lapidary workbench.

I think the workbench problem is mostly resolved.  I've had the windows open in the room for a good cross breeze for a good week or so now (door is shut with a towel at the base to keep the temperature of the house from slipping into that room and out the windows)

Healthwise I'm improving.

It's also given me time to consider some of the things I wanted to do with the workbench regarding details.  Finding a way to make some wooden drawer slides for the 3 drawers I want in the center.  Deciding that using 2 x 4's as rails for my sweeps drawer was a bit in excess.  And some other stuff.

Hoping to get moving again this week, and will post pictures.

George, I can stand or sit on most of the spots as it is, I don't know that I'll need to use my sweeps drawer as a ladder.  ura

I am with George.... I dunno.... you might need a drawer or two with super strength to hide the purchases you might not have told your wife about:) LOL
I used to hide my stuff in the trunk of my car until I could sneak it inside:)

Small update.  Decided that since I had the pieces cut already, that I now can use plate iron for my sweeps drawers if I want, as I used the 2 x 4's.  (no, I don't know that I need one at each station, but I like symetry. :)

The two stations are now one big piece.  And I'm starting to see that I really made a poor decision in the type of wood I used, as the various small warps are all adding up to some serious problems.  The center drawer box is actually square, even though it doesn't look it.  So the drawers I make will not have issues sliding in and out.  I have to recut a shim for the drawer rail on the far left, as the issue there (due to my own stupidity) was worse than I thought.  Fortunately I didn't glue it, so it will be fixed soon.
It's difficult not to be discouraged at this point, as the whole thing, to me, looks like something out of a funny house.
It *is* rock solid though.  I can sit on just about any spot on it, and I'm 285lbs.
I have a few more pieces to put in place on the lower half before I put the bench tops on.  I want to avoid having to crawl around underneath them as much as I can.

Update.  Building the drawers, which hasn't been all that fun so far.  Not much to photograph as the stuff is all in the garage in pieces that have yet to be assembled.  Am also a little side tracked with building more workbenches in the garage, as well as a stand for the slab saw.

Sorry it's taking so long. :(

<insert stream of expletives here>

That's IT.  I am done with having my entire jewelry business on hold for some <more expletives> drawers!  <insert livid emoticon here>

For two weeks I have screwed around trying to do this one stupid thing.  two weeks and more money than I care to count later, I am no further forward than I was before, I've lost two weeks, and have spent money that would have been better spent on rough.

When I want to do the drawers, I'll have someone make them for me.  For now, I'm moving on to the bench tops so maybe I can be back to making jewelry by the end of the decade.

 clapper
Use rubbermaid boxes for drawers till the cabinet maker gets them finished for you.
Those drawer sildes are expensive and then there is the hardware....
