It has been asked if the black background can be changed..

From memory, it seems like this particular Helios Blue theme will not let me go in and alter colors for different/specific parts of this theme.. Most themes will let me..

I will check with someone smarter than me to see for sure. It may require CSS coding which can be pretty complicated and over my head..

In the meantime, I have made it possible for all members to change from the current Helios Blue to a Default theme.  But I need a little help from anyone willing.  As Admin, I can not see some things that regular members can within profiles.. If someone would go to their profile and poke around a little.. Look for something similar to "change to default theme"..  Let me know if you find something, and if it worked for you..

It is not surprising that some find the black background uncomfortable. It has come up before from members on another forum I have, and we did change it to something that worked for everyone..

Happy to change this so everyone can enjoy the forum without being hard on their eyes..

A couple of us looked, and other than the 4 choices at the top of the page, there is nothing for the background.

Hi George, I looked at the profile settings this morning and couldn't see anything different there.  The options under look and layout preferences are the same as well.

admin must allow users to change themes in the themes and layouts within the admin panel.

Click admin, scroll down admin columns to themes and layout, near the top will be a box next to:
Allow members to select their own themes.  make sure the box to the right is marked and members will be allowed to change to a different theme.

right now we arent allowed

Yes, I am know about giving this option.. It was a last resort if I could not get the previous to work, or figure out how to edit the colors on this existing theme..

Since am not having any luck, will go ahead and let members select their own themes..

Nope. The option (2 choices) is there, and no matter which I select, nothing changes. Still black. Thanks for trying.

Does this happen when you pick the option to only use the default theme, or does this happen when you try to pick the option to choose what ever theme you want ?

There are only 2 choices, and neither of them do anything... preview does not work either.

Forum or Board Default
This is the default theme, which means your theme will change along with the administrators' settings and the board you are viewing.

It will help a little if I know which option you are using Sara. If this is happening when you try to use the default, or if when you have chosen to pick any theme..

Not sure if it will work now, but maybe someone give it a whirl.  The only option you will be able and see now is for choosing any theme. The default theme option is turned off.

Sorry I didn't see this until just now.
I click on the Helio  REd at top and it turns my page blue but when I go to another post it reverts back to black.
You know I am artiste George not technical:)

Ok.. Hopefully this will be better for those who had a hard time with the black..

So this lighter background is now the default helios blue.. The other three, helios red, blue, and purple are still available by checking the options top of forum, and those all have the black background..

hi All
I am still new here but that is to bright for me. Can we have an option like I have seen on other sites? If not I will have to figure out how to turn down the brightness of my moniter.

Just my 2 cents

The Blue setting on the top of the page is set to the white back ground.  If you click on either of the other three colors the back ground will return to black.  At least that's what it does on my computer.  I prefer the black backing and the white lettering..................... dunno ........ hide ........ bricks

Just noticed the same thing upon returning..

Give me some more time Steve.. I will try to get a different variety of backgrounds and make sure one include white text on black background..  The person who created this theme is no longer around, and the tech support guys I usually depend on in a pickle, do not have a clue.. I was finally able to change the blue helios to show a light background on my own via changes within the CSS coding.. But it is not easy for me...

Give me some time and eventually will get this worked out.

There may well be some times when members log in that the themes do not look correct through the weekend..

Will start in on this tomorrow ( Saturday ) so hang in there while I try to get everything in order.. Hope to be able and finish up by the end of the day.

Thank you for this.  It has always been very difficult for me to read the white on black.  The only thing worse is red on black.  When I hit that I just skip the site.  This really makes life better for me.

Left the default theme a black background.. For those who would like something lighter, click on the helios blue option top of forum...

I do not know why. even changing my password would not get me through Foxfire. had to switch to google search. now I am playing with the colors. can only get color one page at a time so far. will just leave it on blue I guess.

I'm viewing the Forum on 'green' and that displays the black back ground.  So far no problems at all........................

If I click on the 'blue' I have the white back ground.

the blue was white, is now grey. And the login text area was white, is now black or grey and invisible. Also the search box. The rest is readable, but I have to use  the red, green or purple options to type in my login and search info. I'm using the green to post this.... don't think it's my computer, it was white yesterday...... you changed something again?
This is the only page of all that I visit on the net that does this....

the theme CSS is not working well in your browser Phil. with several iterations to get the lighter colors, it is hard to know what bits of code might have gotten into forum headers and footers - or how this is interacting with your browser and settings. It could be quite a mess. -- Do you still have that kind of odd browser that gave you trouble when RTH theme changed?

since this is only site with problems for you , it is possible clearing your caches and cleaning register might snap you out of it.

you should also try other browsers and computers to help diagnose.

I switched to the green because the old way did not bother me.

George. I've cleared all caches, etc. When I go to another smf forum, all is well, so it's something in this boards settings for the helios blue.  The other three I can see what I'm typing. Only in the Helios blue is the text black on dark grey background for the login script, post reply script, and search script. And the background is not white, it's the same dark grey as the script boxes or the rest of the board. smf says it's some board setting not my computer, as other boards are OK.
Maybe the reason no one else is posting is they can't see to log in, or that I'm the only one using helios blue? Dunno. Thanks for trying.

Phil, this is not a proboards forum. The smffrofree is based on open source smf, which stands for simple machines forums.

There is some smfforfree tech support forum, but it is nowhere near as extensive or good at the proboards tech support.

My bad, I meant SMF. I will correct my other post. On the SMF support boards, they show a simple mod for page color changing. It might make things easier here...

check out:

I'm also using a different browser, same problem.

I do see the problem Phil reports. It is not his settings, rather the theme.

The text for edit boxes (e.g., username, password, new post) is dark on dark background when using the new theme.

It was OK for me until I logged off and back in. Then I saw it. I am not sure why some people are not seeing it.

Green is still ok.

I can't get it to keep the style I choose either.  I prefer that dark background.  This one has fonts that I can't see.  But when I choose the dark option it'll switch, but as soon as I go to the next page it'll revert.
