Hello all, My dad is lithicbeads here on the forum and I am joining the forum as well. I dont cut rocks, but I do collect rocks. I am the official rock picker upper so that my dad doesn't hurt his back, when we are out rockhounding. I also help with finding the rocks and hauling them back to the truck. Below is a picture of a rock that my Dad is going to cut a bead from. here is a little bit about it. this amazing rocks and a bunch of its friends magically showed up on our door step sent by a friend of my dads on the forum. He wanted to post a picture of it before he cut it. he will do show and tell with it later. Here is a photograph of the uncut rough. It is puddingstone from Mississippi.

Welcome rainshadow:) We surely enjoy the company of your Dad and I am sure you will be just as much a delight. He talks about you in his posts:) He said he trained you right when you were real young:) What is it do you want to do with rocks besides pick them up:)

Thanks for all the friendly welcomes. In addition to picking up rocks i also move them around the yard. Our very large rock pile has moved several times and is about to move again this winter. It is moving into the woods so that we can make its current location into a vegetable garden. In addition to picking up rocks that my Dad spots I also do my share of the rock finding when we go out on rockhounding. I enjoy looking for different types of rock and learning how to identify them (which is not always easy with all the metamorphic rocks in the mountains in western washington). I have done a very small amount of rock cutting. I made one bead a number of years ago and have carved a few beach rocks and drilled holes in them with the ultrasonic drill. Carving pebbles from the beach was about all I had the patience for when I was a kid. It was straightforward and gave quick results. At some point when I have time I might try to make a few beads now that I have a bit more patience. Another project for this winter when things are not so busy.

From what your Dad shows us and tells us I think you have one of the best teachers to learn from RainShadow:) We all have to move our rocks from place to place. They get bored of sitting in the same place if we dont:) Good talking with you:)

Maybe if our rocks are out in our woods I won't be able to hear them whispering to me , " Cut me, cut me. "
