I've been more involved into faceting lately. Also because I'm short on nice slabs, a few are on their way, but I'm ready to move overseas, so I'm not buying slabs for now...

Anyway, today I did a knife. It looks very similar to the last knife I posted because it comes from the same slab. I liked how the last one came out, so I cut another one. :D I still have a piece of slab for a matching cab.

This is the finished knife:

I have been able to get a nicely matching pattern on the back of the knife.

This Owyhee picture jasper is really a pleasure to work with.

And it makes for a lovely knife too. Love the pattern in this one.

Yes, I'll be back to the Bay Area. I've found a nice job there at the Berkeley Labs, and since my plan of moving to Japan (to be near to my GF family) failed miserably, I jumped on the opportunity. I'm looking forward to start there. And settle with my lapidary equipment too. ;) I'm very positive about it.  yippie

Well, this time I'm planning to do a few good field trips looking for cool rocks.
I'd like to look for some jaspers in Oregon, but I really like Californite too, so I'll have to decide where to go. And hopefully find some other people sharing the same interest and willing to join.

I had spent 2 years in the Bay Area, but I was able only to go to one field-trip looking for minerals (but it was a good one, at the benitoite mine), while there. I wish I had more holidays! :)

But anyway, when buying slabs, I'd be able to get them soon and without the nuisance (and costs) of Italian Customs. And I'm also hoping to be able to go to the Quartzite or Tucson rocks&minerals shows for a weekend or so.  yippie

The only drawback would be that Swiss Army Knives are more expensive in US. :) Maybe i should switch to some good US-made little knife.

Beautiful knife , Marco! I especially like the way you care for the best match between the two scales.

Man, i love seeing knives with earthly stones for the scales. I have always wanted to make my own but have no idea on how to make the matching scales. Seems a bit daunting to me  iamjealous

For these little Swiss Army Knives the process is easy, just a little more difficult than cutting 2 "normal" calibrated cabs.

You should give it a try. :)
