1  Stone Talk / Rough on the bench and slabs off the saw (general minerals board) / Re: Yard Rock ID? on: May 09, 2012, 01:25:08 am
Thats a pretty nice rock for sure, for a yard rock anyway. My yard rocks wont hold a candle to that one.

I dont know what it is either.   dunno  Is it native to your yard, or was it brought in?  All of mine came from down the hill someplace.
A lot of fill on my place to level it up.

Is water or oil used when cutting this type of Opal?

Salty, Anchovies?  Or, maybe it could be because it was on the beach.   dunno

Very interesting rock. Lots of neat stuff in there.

Will you use oil or water when cutting it?

My camera is set on vivid, so is not quite that bright.

Dont know what to call it so Biggi named it the pizza rock.  Seems to be a little of everything we have found on the beach so far.

It is well agatized for sure.  Not the most attractive,  nothing spectacular.  It is poop, after all.  dunno

Is that what this is?

Biggi purchased it at a rock shop.

Certainly interesting material.

Great, now lets see what are you going to do with it.

Soon as I can get my hands on a cabber, I plan to make some cabs and maybe some jewelry.   My artist neighbor has a casting
machine  hiding in his vast shop of stuff.  If I can persuade him to dig it out I could make the sets.  It's been many years since casting my own sets. Was looking on the net and almost fell over at the prices.  Might try coin silver.

Biggi was slabbing some beach finds with a new saw blade this evening.  She didnt expect anything fancy in this rock. To her surprise it looks like Santa and his elves coming down from the sky to Earth. Thats what it looks like to me.

Written for Biggi.  Biggi is from Munich.

"With a bit of fantasy you see the whole landscape with a sea and the sky with Santa Clause"

Merry Christmas from Biggi and Joe !

Do you suppose that is the REAL find?

Might be.

We did get the big green rock home.  Havent even looked at it close yet.

WHOA!!!!  That's amazing!

The first cut Biggi made just showed black. I grumbled about seeing green when we picked it up. She turned it and made another cut.  My teeth almost fell out when she moved the vice back.   The slab was outside and oil wiped off when she took the pictures.

We were at a rockshop today. The owner said it was green Jasper.  Would like to find more.

         Joe.
