A member is trying to explain their problem to me about viewing pictures within a post.

I am just going to quote their message to me trying to explain and see if someone may have an answer or maybe even experiences the same problem..

"I'm sure that there must be something simple that I'm overlooking or that I simply don't know but I'm very frustrated trying to view picture posts.  All too often I get a separate window with the post and picture that is smaller than the original window, that does not contain enough width to see the text or the picture in the window.  I can't find a scroll bar except at the very bottom of the post, which is worthless to scroll back and forth to read or look at something that way off my screen".

"I appear to have no way to expand the window, to expand the size of the overall window - about half of my screen with all the links over to the left".

"Is there a way to make the forum the whole screen, wiping out the links to see the forum?  Is there a way to change the size of the window at all"?

Anyone ??

I dunno if this is same thing but....
I have noticed on first post for me or anyone else it doesnt take up whole screen. There is the slide bar at bottom. Once someone replies then it jumps up and opens full screen.
I always wondered about that, if it was a way for George to monitor the posts and then if they were ok, they expand to full size.
Is this what they were talking about?

It is whenever someone posts a picture that is bigger than the right 3/4 of the screen, then it puts the slide bar down at the bottom so you can look and see the whole picture.
When you scroll to the right then the words that are on the left get hidden and you have to scroll back to finish reading the rest of the words.
I  have the same thing happen on mine.
I think what he is trying to ask is if there is a way to minimize the left hand bar (under "general information about the site")so  he can see the whole picture at once instead of scrolling back and forth to see it.

That's the interpretation I got anyways..............Tony

I agree with Tony, thats how it seems to read.
I only have that problem when pictures posted are too large.  You have to scroll sideways at the bottom of the post.

Aw... ok.

Now I get it and the answer is no.. There is no way to change that.

It would help if images that are hosted via Photoobucket, FlickR, etc.. and then posted on the forum, are edited to be less than say 800 px prior to uploading them to those photo hosting services. Then viewers of those posts would not have to deal with the scroll bar.

I am looking at some settings, and not for sure which it is, but can figure it out and likely make it so those type of hosted images have to be 800 or less in width before they can be posted.

Hmmm......

I have the same thing happen to me as well, but guess never really thought much about it.

This bugged me since day one joining. I feel George has to move the adds on left of screen. That way maybe we wont have to scroll for pictures etc.  Some pictures may be to large as well.

I hardly bother to look on left side of page. Only thing that stands out is a cab picture anyways.

I won't say no more I may be banned soon.

Ok, your banned !  Grin

Always appreciate any and all comments CMan.. Not to worry..

Although, I do like the side bar and the information that is within it..

Thing is, that even if that were removed, yes the forum would be wider, but would not solve the problem completely.

The same problem will continue to occur when images that are just that much wider are posted. We are right back to seeing the scroll bar.

In other words, some of the images that members are seeing the scroll bar on now may or may not be removed.. All still depends on the width of the hosted image. The only sure fire way to resolve it is for me to set a maximum allowed hosted image width.

There seems to be enough input about it.., and certainly fair enough of a forum navigation issue.  So will go ahead and fix us up.

Just as soon as I figure it out !  Grin

Thanks for all the help and input everyone !

Well, I have just been educated by SMF support that there is no way to set a max pixel width on Photobucket/FlickR type hosted images.

So with that in mind...... This is about all we can do

Thanks for posting this, it was me that posed the question.   I imagine it is the way the foum is set up.  I'm used to Castboolits.gunloads.com - and the way that one is set up is that the main forum takes most of the main screen, making for more space for pics.  I always have the movement slide on the bottom of my screen there too, so I can move the screen anywhere in a series of pics in a single post.

I hope that makes sense, I know psychospeech, not computer speech.
