Hmmm..... Seems like might have to pick something that we have already used. Tried to think of something new, but seems like would have to start getting into some minerals that a lot of folks may not have. I would rather pick something we have already used so that it will be much more likely that everyone who wishes to participate will probably have some of laying around. So... how about this months entry be any kind of Jasper in bead and freeform cabs. Over the last month the forum has had many new members. So...., briefly.. The idea is that your entry be something you have just completed rather than something previously completed. It's not a competitive deal. Just an opportunity for all of us cabbers to share something special we have cut through out a months time. The featured cab spot to the right of the forum often comes from these entries, and is completely random. Its a nice little bonus for participating as will link to the cab owners site of choice. Maybe result in a few extra visitors to your site. Although it has not been competitive to date, if there are a whole lot of entries on a given month, I may well put up a poll to decide everyones favorite entry for placing in the featured area. Looking forward to some nice Jaspers !

Can't wait to see your new batch of cabs Taogem Always enjoy seeing what comes off your bench. I just got 3 small nods of Carrasite that my hands are itching to get at. Hopefully over the long 3-day weekend some rock dust will be flying!

Well, looks like we have another member besides myself who enjoys staying up through the night I can just see that beautiful picture cab in one of your settings Phill. Am I seeing things or is the surface of the cab shaped with areas that rise like hills? Top of the morning to you and thanks for joining in !

Top of the morning to you tooo,
I'll try to take a picture of it that will show you the top contour. The face of the cab is normal but I shaped the top to follow the curves in the stone. I have to actually go to work today in the field so it will be tonight before I can take another pic.
Have fun,

Hi Everyone,
Jasper is a great choice for this month! There are some many varieties and patterns. Just a heads up- the current issue of Rock and Gem magazine has a nice article on this stone. I learned a few things. Hope you will too!
My entry is included. Found this rough on eBay.
Have a great day!

Hey Susan Beautiful Jasper and great shape ! It looks like you tried to include the url to the Rock and Gem to let us know what kind of Jasper it is, but you did not create the link properly. When you want to "hyperlink" like that, here is what it should look like. Your Rock and Gem text goes here
Take special note of where the ][ are located in the code. I like to highlight the text part and then use the "change color" box above. Orange shows up nicely on the forum. So in this case if you choose, you could highlight the Rock and Gem and then pick a color. Here is a neat link that shows a lot of great tricks for things like hyperlinking and other html codes Beautiful Jasper and thanks for joining in !

Hi George,
This rough was sold to me as Blue Mountain jasper. I purchased several slabs, the majority like this with a subtle rippling. It is definitely jasper - hard as a "rock"! - and takes awhile to cut/polish. I had left it sitting on the bench for awhile deciding how to cut it. It hasn't much to catch the eye - or imagination - until I started to really look at it. There is a richness in its simplicity I find appealing.
I don't know if other lapidaries experience this, but sometimes, I get "lost" in the stone and cannot, for the life of me, decide how or where to cut. That's when a simple pattern or no pattern is needed, allowing the artistic flow to focus on shape alone. Last week, I spent two days on some faintly pink rose quartz just working out the shapes.
I apologize for not listing what it is!
Best regards, Susan

Well it''s very pretty..
The subtle rippling reminded me of some Larsonite that I saw.
I have heard that very same thing from many cabbers here. Myself included.
Letting something sit and occasionally picking it up and setting it back down. Over and over until it seems like were pretty sure how to approach the cut.
Many here are much better at it than I am.

Well, the deadline approaches so here is my contribution. I scored a really nice piece of rainforest jasper on eBay awhile back, and it had some of the nice burnt orange color I like. Hope you enjoy it! Vance
