Area dialects and words are always interesting, aren't they? Makes for different conversations and hence the meanings. After all we drink soda, some tonic, some pop  - sandwiches are subs,  hogies and grinders.  As long as what we are talking about is clear, then there isn't a problem.
Funny though isn't it?

I am someones Mater (Mother?) does that make you a Pater (Father?) I am definately NOT a Tater, but do feel like I'm underground sometimes.  Cheesy

As for being underground, I've gotten the mushroom treatment
my entire life.... you know, kept in the dark and fed... lmao

But we'd best not get too far off topic here. LOL

George,

I sent ya an email with a link, if you nose around in there its one of the best on soldering and silverwork.

the paste you're talking about is paste flux, some like it ,some prefer fluid. Personally I prefer the fluid and I spray it on the silver, saturate it in fact...(a perfume atomizer works great for a fine mist, but anything along those lines works)

Prior to fluxing and setting the solder pallions, remember pickling is probably one of the most important things to do.
this removes all grease, oil from your fingers etc from the silver (any of that will mess up solder flow).... pickle can be bought, or you can find various formula's involving boric acid, 20 mule team borax and water...any of them work. keep the pickle about 120-140 degree's for best results(use a hot plate)(remember  pickles are caustic so.. PPE use it) then follow basic solder instructions.

Give that site a read it'll help ya tons...... Full Speed Ahead and Good luck.

you can always call or email me with questions and I'll be glad to share what I know with ya.

let me know what ya think on the PMC as you go along....I'll be purchasing kiln and PMC set up also.
So I'd love the advise from you...

I spent a fair bit of money today on some silver backing, and an ounce container of soldering paste.

Should be here in a few days.

I still have a bit of silver metal clay left over from the class.

Between the bezel tape, backing, silver metal clay, and the soldering paste, I should be able to piece something together  Grin

Silver metal clay is fun to work and makes really nice jewelry. I sometimes work a bit slow and have to be careful to keep the moisture level proper. Do you have some questions about working with PMC?

Always love it when an old thread is bumped back up top !

For myself... The rest of the story was fairly short lived. At the time was thinking it was going to be my jewelry design medium of choice.

There are some really talented PMC jewelry designers out there.. I just did not end up caring for it..

If I remember correctly, it was about the time that I first saw some of Phil's pieces. As soon as I saw his work, I realized the direction I wanted to head.. Although far from his expertise... Someday down the road along with a nice rolling mill !!  Grin

One of our members.. cababineau, who is extremely talented and very active with PMC drops in from time to time.

If you or anyone else has any questions at all... I will ask her to drop in and answer any questions.

Hello Carol:)
It is so exciting to hear you talking about PMC and also showing your pieces.
It is something I have dabbled in for past year but with just a couple of hours each month with our club its hard to learn much. There is no one in this area that gives classes Cry
I love that mixed metal piece you showed us. I really like the use of more than one metal with the stones.
Anything that any of you can recommend or show us would be greatly appreciated.
Happy Sunday to yall:)
