Sara Darlin, thanks for that explaination.  It sure beats spraying that hideous chemical stuff on the superglue to speed the curing process.  With that stuff, am sure you are putting your life at risk, and I can't hold my breath for that long.  So, baking soda sounds like a much healthier way to go.

Not bad concept, I have the tools already here and will  give it a try
  over Thanksgiving weekend.  Let you know how it works.

  Still need to do some more research, but willing to get frustrated trying
this.  What the heck if doesn't work for me, I still be cutting cabs.

Do you also happen to have a pump laying around Rod ? I was checking eBay, and actually, there are some pretty darn cheap vacuum pumps.

Looking forward to seeing how this turns out for you. Please be sure to walk us through the process if you can..

Would need a custom tip, but why not just use a medical syringe?  put the rock on the silicon ring, pull the stopper back real firm and lock it in place (not sure how this would be done, but should be pretty simple)?
