Howdy........I have several jewelry making books and they just seem incomplete. There is little to be found on technique and step by step process is usually vague at best. I just got a copy of Tim McCreight's "The Complete Metalsmith" and it is the best book I have found so far. I found it on halfbay and the excellent, used copy was delivered for less than 8.00. I had been meaning to get this book for some time but it just never happened 'till now. Should have had it 2 years ago.................Bob

I stumbled upon these tools last night.
Not that I need them all, but really like the heavier bezel look that is in the second image.
I would imagine that the proper way to learn is with hands on instructor, but I am not in the position to do that.
I may just go ahead and pick up a few of these tools.
So a book, CD, or video showing step by step using tools like these would be great!

Found some used editions at Amazon for 25.00 and several at eBay for 13.00. There are some other editions by Tim McCreight as well. Student editions, and also some CD's. Any idea if the student edition might be a better first choice? Pinching pennies here at Christmas... I am in the same boat in regards to living out in the boonies. Our local club is pretty basic and no opportunities for any kind of classes or instructors. I do live about an hour from Spokane. Might have to consider hunting down someone willing to give some hands on. Although there is still being able to afford it.  Thanks for the pics too! |

I think "The Complete Metalsmith" second edition is the best. Look on : http://search.half.ebay.com/the-complete-metalsmith_W0QQmZbooks The best deals are here. I also have the Don Norris CD. Which is different in that he uses a propane cylander torch and hard solders everything. Good to get many perspectives.......Bob |

Club, wish we had a club here, the only club I have is the one for finding cavewomen and it aint been much good lately, lol,, they are offering a silversmithing call in january at the cities cultural affairs studio and it looks pertty good, one of the local college {art school} professors is giving the class.

I agree about how nice it is to have some talk about books.. To tell you the truth..... I think this is a first. Maybe I need to start up another part of the forum dedicated to books... I am still deciding on the Student Edition, and the Complete Metalsmith edition. It seems the Student edition replaced the Complete Metalsmith edition. So I am probably going to order the Student edition... Still have to wait until after Christmas... |

I think a book and possible a video section would be good. I know my wife has purchased a number of jewelry making videos and for the most part they were disappointing. I think having a book list of good publications would benefit us all.
